Papua New Guinea’s Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry of Papua New Guinea, Hon. Richard Maru, OBE, MP, with a Delegation visited India from 25-30 January 2013 at the invitation of Hon. Anand Sharma, MP, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Textiles of India to attend the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Partnership Summit 2013. The Summit was titled “Global Partnerships for Enduring Growth” and convened at the Jaypee Hotel, Agra, Uttar Pradesh from 27-29 January 2013.

On 29 January 2013, Minister Maru had given a Keynote Address during the Plenary Session 5: “Rapidly Emerging Global Value Chains - Where Do Developing Economies Fit In?” This was chaired by Mr. Malvinder Mohan Singh, Chairman of CII – Northern Region. In his Address, Minister Maru invited and encouraged the Indians to take an interest to engage in business and investment opportunities currently available in Papua New Guinea.

Minister Maru’s Delegation included Hon. Sasindran Muthuvel, MP, Governor of West New Britain Province, Hon. Benjamin Philip, Vice Minister for Finance, Mr. Ivan Pomaleu, OBE, Managing Director of Investment Promotion Authority (IPA), Mr. Clarence Hoot, Director of Business, Investment & Export Promotion Division of IPA, Mr. John Kendiga, First Secretary, Office of the Minister for Trade, Commerce & Industry, Prof. Samuel Haihuie, University of Papua New Guinea, Mr. Thompson Benguma, Cocoa Exporter and Mr. Micky Puritau, Managing Director of Agribusiness Consultancy Ltd.

H. E. Mr. Tarcisius Eri, High Commissioner, Ms. Seline Leo-Lohia, First Secretary and Ms. Esther Famhoite, Personal Assistant of the Papua New Guinea High Commission in New Delhi accompanied the Minister and his Delegation to this meeting.

The Delegation also attended some Business to Business (B2B) meetings with some business persons within the margins of this Summit.
